Sea Ports Corporation (SPC) is an independent state corporation of Sudan that governs, constructs and maintains the ports, harbors and lighthouses of Sudan.
The company was founded in 1974 by the government of Sudan to be the national port operator and port authority.
SPC operates and manages the following ports of Sudan:
- Port Sudan
- Al Khair
- Osman Digna
- El Zubir
Upto 1904 Swakin was the only Sudanese port at the Red Sea and it was an important commercial center and a port for muslim pilgrims to cross the Red Sea to reach Port of Jeddah.
Construction of Port Sudan started on 1905 – it was officially inaugurated in 1909 by the Second Khedewi of Egypt Abas Helimi.
In 1974 Sea Ports Corporation ( SPC) was established as a department under the Ministry of Transport and as an independent Sudanese maritime body headed by a Board of Directors.
