Ports and Maritime Stakeholders in Kenya launch Maritime Awards

An initiative of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in collaboration with other stakeholders, the East Africa Maritime Awards (EAMA) aims to promote excellence in service delivery, appreciate exceptional contribution to the industry and economy, encourage innovation and improve industry performance.

EAMA is envisioned to be an annual event with the inaugural awards gala night scheduled for Friday, 26th october 2018.

Speaking during the launch event in Mombasa on 18 July 2018 Mr. Edward Kamau, GM: Corporate Services KPA said “EAMA targets the maritime community both individuals and organisations in Kenya and the Eastern Africa region that endeavour to strengthen and grow their services at the Port of Mombasa.”

Other stakeholders include: Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Trade Network Agency (KENTRADE), Shippers Council Of Eastern Africa (SCEA), East African Business Council (EABC) and Think Business Ltd.

The awards are aimed at meeting and surpassing set regulatory standards, adopting best practice on respective service delivery and fostering competitiveness of the regional players.

Examples of organizations which qualify for the awards include: Cargo Principals (Importers & Exporters), Shipping Lines & Agents, Cargo Consolidators, Clearing & Forwarding Agents and Warehousing Companies, CFS Operators, Partner Government Agencies, Transporters, Liquid and Bulk Operators, Other auxiliary maritime support services such as bunkering, shipchandling and providers of other support services such as banking, insurance, media and training institutions.
