Director General Mr. Eric Hamissi attributed the revenue surge to a raft of changes being implemented at the Port, chief among them being the improved funding from the Government to enable TPA undertake port development projects and invest in new equipment.

According to Mr. Hamissi, expansion for berth 1 – 5 is complete. Currently they are working on berth 6 – 7. He said construction of the container yard is expected to be completed in August 2021

Upon completion the volume of cargo handled at port of Dar es Salaam is projected to rise by 7.5 million tonnes – to 25 million tonnes in 2025 – compared to the 17.5 million tonnes handled last year.

Mr Hamissi also said the port of Dar Es Salaam has also been able to reduce vessel turnaround time from 5 days to 2 days. He believes with new equipment the target will be reduced to 24 hours.
