The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Ms Hadiza Bala Usman (pictured) on 20 April 2021 announced her interest to re-contest for the position of Vice President of the International Association of Ports & Harbors (IAPH), Africa Region.
In a letter seen by the PMAESA Secretariat the Ms Usman requests the support of PMAESA Member Countries as she contests for the position.
Ms Usman is currently the incumbent since July 2017.
In addition she is also the Vice-Chair of the FAL (Facilitation) Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This positions Ms Usman at the forefront of global policy efforts geared towards maritime development and port sustainability.
Ms Usman pledges her commitment to promoting the interests of African ports for greater competitiveness through strong membership cooperation and synergies aimed at reaping the gains of global trade.
On the issue of maritime trade disruptions caused by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms Usman underscores the need for resiliency and enhanced capacities of the maritime ecosystem by accelerating automation, addressing safety and security concerns, advocating customer friendly port tariffs, promote multi-modalism and encourage greater participation of women in the maritime industry.
