PMAESA and RCREEE Sign Partnership Agreement

The Port Management Association for Eastern & Southern Africa (PMAESA) under the leadership of Secretary General, Col. Andre Ciseau on Tuesday 21 January 2025 formalized a partnership agreement (MOU) with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE)

RCREEE, an intergovernmental organization seeks to enable and increase adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency practices across pan-Arab countries. It is also the official technical institution of the League of Arab States (the Energy Department) and the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity (AMCE).

The organization, based in Cairo, collaborates with governments and global organizations to initiate and lead clean energy policy dialogue, strategies, technologies and more importantly, capacity development.

The partnership agreement is primarily centered on strengthening cooperation through joint activities focused on sustainable energy practices for sustainable port management as well as supporting development of Green Port technologies and energy efficiency practices within Eastern and Southern African ports.

Speaking during the signing ceremony held virtually, RCREEE Acting Executive Director, Dr. Maged K. Mahmoud welcomed the initiative and stated that RCREEE looked forward to supporting African Ports to build their capacities in implementing sustainable port operations.

On his part, Col. Ciseau, expressed his appreciation for partnering with the Association and welcomed Dr Maahmoud and his team to participate actively in PMAESA’s activities – specifically the Green Port Program which is anchored in the PMAESA Strategic Plan 2024 – 2028.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Kailash Dhunnoo, Senior Manager, Technical Services at the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA), in view of his expertise and experience in the field of green port initiatives at the local, regional and international levels.

The ongoing UNCTAD Sustainable Smart Port Project at Port Louis underlines the transformative potential of sustainable practices within the port sector and serve as an inspiring model for the wider region.
