PMAESA Chairman Mr Bisey /Uirab bids Adieu

Mr Bisey /Uirab who is also the outgoing Namport Chief Executive Officer is set to step down from his position as Chairperson of the regional Ports Association following his appointment as the head of the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) in March 2019.

Announcing Mr /Uirab’s departure, the Namport Board of Directors said he had steered the Namibian Ports Authority from a fairly medium sized public enterprise into the regionally acclaimed logistics and maritime industry leader. The NAMPORT board described Mr /Uirab’s 10-year reign at the ports company as very successful.

In addition, Mr /Uirab has been praised by both the public and private sectors, including former President of the Republic of Namibia H.E. Hifikepunye Pohamba, for his exemplary leadership.

The milestones achieved since taking the reign as caption of the Namport ship in 2009 include (but not limited to) increasing the Port Authority’s revenue from N$434 million in 2008 to N$1 billion in 2018 and an increase in cargo handled at the country’s ports from 4.6 million tons in 2008 to 5.3 million tons in 2018.

His role in the development of the N$4.3 billion container terminal at Walvis Bay is also regarded as another milestone, likewise the port’s local procurement empowerment and capacitation strategy have seen an 80% local procurement of services under his leadership.

Beyond Namport, Mr. /Uirab was elected the Chairman of PMAESA Board during the PMAESA Council meeting held during the 10th Pan African Association of Ports (PAPC) Conference in November 2014.

During his tenure, Mr Uirab called for strengthening cooperation between PMAESA Members with the aim of promoting regional integration.
