Report of the AMCBEC 2023

The AMCBEC 2023 conference brought together more than 350 delegates from 25 African Countries.

The event was organised around seven (7) Sessions, focusing on the following critical areas;

  • Maritime Cabotage in the Eastern and Southern Africa Region
  • Role of Ports and Harbours in Facilitating Regional Maritime Cabotage
  • Harnessing the Blue Economy by Embracing the Value Chain Approach
  • Importance of Trade Facilitation in Promoting Regional Integration and Intra–African Trade
  • Boosting Intra–African Trade from the Ship Ownership Perspective
  • Role of Private Sector and Financial Institutions in Promoting Continental Trade and
  • Ship Building and Ship Repairs in Africa: Opportunities & Challenges.

Experts provided in-depth guidance during panel discussions and presentations, to exchange information and ideas on how best Cabotage policies can be implemented in Africa in support of the African Maritime Transport Charter (2010), which states that:

‘State Parties shall promote Cabotage and effective participation of private sector operators at National, Regional and Continental levels. In the establishment of a National and Regional Maritime Cabotage, shipping lines should be encouraged in order to promote Intra-African trade and facilitate the Economic and Socio-economic integration of the continent’
