It is with deep regret that we share the passing of a former PMAESA Board Member and former Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Mr. Francis Gichiri Ndua.
On behalf of the Council and Board of Directors of PMAESA and the PMAESA Membership, I take this opportunity to extend sincere condolences to his family members and to all who had the honour of working with the late Mr. Ndua.
Mr. Ndua – a visionary leader in the port and maritime sector left an indelible mark on development at the Port of Mombasa and elevated Kenya’s position in the international market.
Under Mr. Ndua’s leadership, KPA attained achieved a historic milestone by recording one million TEUs in container traffic handled at the port of Mombasa for the first time in 2014. This is evidence of his strategic foresight, determination, and unwavering commitment to modernization and efficiency at the Port of Mombasa.
On the international scene Mr. Ndua became the first African elected to lead the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) in 2009. This underscored his in-depth understanding of the continent’s maritime transport system.
As PMAESA Board Member, Mr Ndua, oversaw the transitioning of the leadership at the PMAESA Secretariat in 2014. The Association will be forever in-debted to his wisdom and leadership.
Mr Ndua’s legacy is built in the standards of excellence he set, the institutions he helped build, and the many professionals he mentored.
While we grieve his departure, we also celebrate a life well lived, one characterized by service, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of progress for Kenya’s maritime sector and the broader economic development in the Eastern Africa region.
To his family, we share in your sorrow and stand with you during this difficult time. May you find strength in the memories of a life well lived and in the enduring impact of his contributions to the Republic of Kenya and to the global maritime community.
