The Secretary General of PMAESA, Col. Andre Ciseau had the pleasure of hosting the Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Coast Tourism Association (KCTA), Mr. Julius Owino at the PMAESA Secretariat offices in Mombasa, Kenya.

The purpose of the meeting was for the two organizations to have a ground breaking discussion on the collaboration for Cruise Tourism Development in the Eastern, Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands region.

A Cruise Tourism Technical Workshop is being planned this year, therefore, the technical collaboration is required in the planning and implementation of the recommendations for Marketing the region as the preferred Cruise destination.

Some of the key highlights during the discussion included: collaboration in promoting the increase in the number of cruise tourists through structured experiences (Product designing); development of the local infrastructure for safety and security; capacity building of the tour guides (in terms of product knowledge, personal grooming and interpersonal skills), the challenges experienced in facilitating cruise tourists (immigration, clearance, travel advisory/authorization); crisis management/ damage control in case of incidences; promotion of the lake cruise tourism for the land linked countries; multi-agency approach (inclusive tourism stakeholders engagement in the working groups); need for development of the Standard Operating Procedures and the Value chain analysis of the capacities of the shore excursions and city infrastructure.

Going forward, the two organizations have committed to further the discussion with the Board of Directors of the Kenya Coast Tourism Association (KCTA) in the organization of the Ports and Cities Forum: focus on Cruise Tourism & Pleasure Craft Industry Development in Africa.

At the end of the meeting, Col. Ciseau presented the PMAESA @50 Commemorative Handbook and the PMAESA Strategic Plan 2024-2028 (popular version) to Mr. Owino as a gesture of goodwill in the collaboration.
